Obama Invites Ahmed Mohamed to Bring His Clock to the White House
The Texas teenager who was arrested and suspended from his high school after teachers and police mistook his homemade clock for a bomb just received an invitation to the White House on Twitter.
Ever since news of Ahmed Mohamed‘s arrest and suspension went viral Wednesday morning, social media has responded with the hashtag #IStandWithAhmed. Most have used it to tweet their support for Mohamed and his family. Others have ridiculed the MacArthur High School administration and the local police in Irving for their actions.
Despite all that, things took a turn when President Obama piped in on Twitter:
Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great.
— President Obama (@POTUS) September 16, 2015
Whether or not the Mohamed family will accept the president’s invitation remains to be seen, though there’s a good chance MSNBC’s Chris Hayes will ask them about it when he interviews them tonight at 8 p.m. ET:
Ahmed and his family will be on with me tonight at 8pm on MSNBC. #inners
