Obama Takes the Wheel For Jerry Seinfeld on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee
Just in time to ring in the new year, Jerry Seinfeld‘s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee web series kicked off their new season yesterday. A fair amount of hype went for the fact that the President Obama would be the first guest of the season, and based on how things went, they certainly delivered.
Seinfeld opened the show by saying Obama was a good fit for the show since he “has gotten off just enough funny lines to qualify for getting on.” After tapping on the Oval Office windows to let Obama know he was in, Seinfeld took the president for a spin in his 1963 Corvette Stingray, saying it was “the coolest car ever made for the coolest guy to ever hold this office.”
While the Secret Service wouldn’t actually allow the two to drive off to get coffee, they talked as they took a few rounds on the driveway before heading inside for a cup of joe.
“I always wanted to be in a show about nothing and here I am,” Obama said. Seinfeld quipped right back that “there’s nothing more nothing than this. Nothing.”
Once inside, Seinfeld and Obama talked about a number of things, such as how many world leaders were “completely out of their minds,” what it’s like to live at the world’s most famous address, and whether politics was more like football or chess. The show was taken up mostly by small talk and fun banter as they bounced questions off each other, but Obama supporters got one bit of validation towards the end when Seinfeld turned to the camera and said Obamacare was a “great thing.”
Things left off on an amusing note for the two however, when they got back in Seinfeld’s corvette so that Obama could ride the whip and drive himself for a change. “I’m appreciably cooler than I was two minutes ago,” Obama said.
