Obama Tells Bill Simmons He Would Have Loved to Run Against Trump

Barack ObamaBill Simmons interviewed President Obama for GQ, and in it the president talks about everything from TV he watches to Ferguson to Donald Trump.

Obama talks about the challenges of the presidency and the limitations of the office, saying, “A lot of the work is not just identifying the right policy but now constantly building these ever shifting coalitions to be able to actually implement and execute and get it done.”

He opens up about his response to tragedies like Ferguson and Charleston and his reluctance to be too outspoken on the former because of concerns that he might “potentially damage subsequent law-enforcement cases.”

But Obama and Simmons also talk about much lighter things, like checking out NBA Classics or how the president’s favorite Game of Thrones character is Tyrion. And like most watchers of the show, the president has a problem remembering most of the characters’ names.

And that’s when Simmons brought up Trump:

Which Game of Thrones character is Donald Trump?

Uh… I don’t think… I don’t think any of them rise to that level.

If you were campaigning against Trump, would you even bother? Would it be like LaBradford Smith talking trash to Jordan or something?

I would’ve enjoyed campaigning against Trump. That would’ve been fun.
