Obama Will Make First Presidential Visit to a U.S. Mosque Next Week

 

Barack ObamaPresident Obama will make his first official presidential visit to a mosque inside the United States next week, the White House announced today.

The president has visited mosques in trips to Muslim nations, but according to The Washington Post, he’s making his first domestic mosque visit as president to the Islamic Society of Baltimore on Wednesday.

The center says on its website that it “aspires to be the anchor of a growing Muslim community with diverse backgrounds, democratically governed, relating to one another with inclusiveness and tolerance, and interacting with neighbors in an Islamic exemplary manner.”

The Obama administration has been pushing for more outreach with and tolerance of the Muslim world over the past few months.
