Ocasio-Cortez Lauds Rep. Omar’s Criticism of Trump Foreign Policy: ‘You Can See Why She Gets Targeted’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is praising Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for her criticism of the foreign policy tendencies of President Donald Trump‘s administration.

In a Sunday evening tweet, Ocasio-Cortez called Omar an “effective” voice in calling out the “authoritarian foreign policy tendencies of this administration.”

“Rep. Omar, a survivor of war, is one of the most effective voices right now at cutting through the authoritarian foreign policy tendencies of this administration,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “She nails it here. You can see why she gets targeted.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s comment about Omar being targeted comes days after a House resolution condemning hate was passed following comments from the Minnesota Democrat in which she alluded to “political influence in this country that says it is okay for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country.”

Omar has broken with Democratic leadership on Venezuela by not recognizing Juan Guaido as interim president. On Sunday, she tweeted that Trump and Elliot Abrams — envoy to Venezuela — “cannot be trusted.”

“Trump and Elliott Abrams cannot be trusted to tell the truth about what’s happening in Venezuela,” Omar wrote. “We must continue to question the narratives they provide and promote dialogue instead of intervention.”

Last month in a House Foreign Relations committee hearing, Omar grilled Abrams over Venezuela in a viral confrontation.
