Parkland Student David Hogg Calls for New Dem Leadership in NY Mag Cover Story: ‘Pelosi is Old’
— New York Magazine (@NYMag) August 20, 2018
On the half-year anniversary of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, David Hogg is on the front cover of New York Magazine.
The cover story goes into great detail with regard to Hogg’s life before the attack, his emergence as an outspoken media sensation, and his new public life as a gun control advocate. The last one is especially highlighted since Hogg decided some time ago to suspend his academics in order to embrace his role in #NeverAgain movement, and which has generated months of publicity, opposition, and sociopolitical fallout for him.
As the profile describes how Hogg and his fellow Parkland students were catapulted to fame, it also explains that the last six months gave him plenty of time to develop strong political opinions about more than just guns. Hogg is sure Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is “a future president of the United States” for one, and he also seriously believes in Congressional age limits.
From the piece:
“The reason Republicans are successful right now is because they’re empowering young people,” he told me, pointing out that Paul Ryan was 45 when he became Speaker of the House. “Older Democrats just won’t move the fuck off the plate and let us take control. Nancy Pelosi is old.”
The rest of the piece goes on to explore Hogg’s plans to run for political office when he turns 25-years-old:
Then, after college, he would prepare for his congressional run. “I think I’ve come to that conclusion,” he says. “I want to be at least part of the change in Congress.”
