Party Pooper Bacteria May Ruin President Obama’s Vacation… Literally

So we know the Gulf is fine for swimming in, at least according to our The-President-Went-Swimming-There-ometer. However, it seems we can’t say the same for the beaches at Martha’s Vineyard. The Boston Herald reports today that, courtesy of some rather nasty bacteria in the water around the island, President Obama and his family might be better off not gong for a dip while on vacation.

From the Herald:

“Portions of Tisbury Great Pond, the salt-water lagoon fronting the first family’s vacation estate Blue Heron Farm, were closed earlier this week due to high levels of enterococci, an indicator that the water is contaminated with fecal coliform bacteria. Ew.”

So where crude oil failed to keep the Obamas from hitting the beach, fecal coliform bacteria may yet succeed. Ew is right.

Is it too soon to joke that, hey, at least the spill in the Gulf was just oil?
