Penn State to Pay $60 Million to Jerry Sandusky Assault Victims
On Monday, Penn State University announced it would pay $59.7 million to twenty-six different victims of Jerry Sandusky’s sexual assault crimes.
Sandusky, a Penn State football coach and founder of the charity Second Mile, was convicted in July 2012 of forty-fives counts of sexual assault with minors and sentenced to 30-60 years in prison, a verdict he is currently appealing.

Penn State has been in negotiations with the victims for over a year, the university said, and began reaching deals in August. Despite the twenty-six settlements it announced today, six claims are still outstanding. The university said it had already spent more than $50 million on Sandusky-related proceedings, including public relations efforts, attorneys’ fees, and implementation of new policies.
