Polling Says Democrat Could Win WH in 2020, But Not the One You’re Thinking Of

Polling last month found that Senator Elizabeth Warren may face trouble holding onto her seat, but that hasn’t stopped much of the chatter about her becoming the Democrats’ new standard-bearer and rising to the top of the party, presumably in advance of a presidential run. Polling this week, however, indicates that such a run might not be a great idea for the Democrats, either.

Politico/Morning Consult poll shows that while Donald Trump is generally doing poorly with most people, he could still beat Warren in 2020 as it stands now. Here’s what Politico says:

Roughly a quarter of voters think Donald Trump is the worst president in the last century. Forty-three percent of voters are ready to vote for a nameless Democrat in 2020, while just over a third say they’ll vote for Trump … [H]e still beats Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) in a hypothetical matchup, 42 percent to 36 percent — a fairly impressive margin for an less-than-popular president against the prominent senator.

So, a Democrat could almost absolutely beat Trump in 2020 given that 43% of voters would be willing to vote in anyone from that side of the aisle, but Warren apparently isn’t “anyone.”

Politico says that the poll was conducted on February 9th and 10th, just after “nevertheless, she persisted” became a rallying cry following Warren getting silenced by the GOP on the Senate floor.

It might not look good for Warren, but, at present, it also looks pretty bad for Trump.
