‘Pure, Unadulterated Greed’: Hillary Clinton Slams NRA and Republicans as ‘Complicit’ in Gun Violence Epidemic
Hillary Clinton gave a podcast interview on Monday night where she took her attacks against the National Rifle Association up a notch in the aftermath of the Las Vegas Shooting.
Clinton spoke with Igor Volsky, the vice president of the Center for American Progress and co-host of the progressive organization’s ‘Thinking CAP’ podcast. Clinton argued that the shooting in Vegas points to a need for sweeping social change, and that the NRA has “captured” the Republican party through their political influence.
As Clinton continued to call for a gun registration program and limitations on firearm sales, she said “It is a sign of the deep dysfunction of this government and this Republican Party that has been taken over by extreme elements to the point that they are doing whatever they are told to do.”
When Volsky asked Clinton if Republicans and the NRA are complicit in the gun violence epidemic, Clinton answered “of course they are.”
“This is nothing but pure, unadulterated greed motivated by people who want to sell as many guns as they can, to engage in a falsity of fear and rhetoric about why everybody has to have guns,” argued Clinton. “The evidence is just so clear that more guns do not keep you safer and more guns in the wrong hands lead to terrible incidents…We see the horrors of Las Vegas. It happens every day.”
