Rand Paul Wants to Stop Welfare for Future Refugees That Come to U.S.
Senator Rand Paul does not want refugees coming to the U.S. from nations with “significant jihadist movements,” and those that come here he doesn’t want getting welfare.
On Fox News earlier today, Paul said that refugees shouldn’t be getting government benefits when there are already plenty of people in the United States, such as disabled veterans, that need them.
And Paul has been very strongly pushing this today with an amendment he’s introducing to block those benefits, and touting it all day on Twitter:
I don't think we should continue adding people to the roles from the Middle East until they've been properly vetted!

My amendment will end housing assistance to refugees. It sends a clear message to the president. We have control of the power of the purse!

My amendment to stop welfare to future refugees needs a vote in the senate. Call your Senators and demand they allow a vote!

On the Senate floor today, Paul pointed to the Boston bombers, how they came in as refugees, and how they “didn’t take very kindly to what we gave them.” He addressed those infamous words at the Statue of Liberty and said, “When the poem… says give me your tired, give me your poor, it didn’t say come to our country and we’ll put you on welfare.”
“We borrow a million dollars a minute. We don’t have enough money to do this. It’s a threat to our national security,” Paul said, adding that if President Obama “will not listen to the American people, we will take the money from the purse.”
