Reince Priebus Won’t Go to Bat For Trump on Stormy Daniels Payout: ‘I’m Not Sure What the Truth is’
“[I’m] not spinning for the president,” said Reince Preibus Sunday morning on Fox News. “I don’t work for the president anymore.”
The former White House Chief of Staff didn’t really need to make that comment, though. Moments earlier, he’d made that fact patently obvious.
Appearing on MediaBuzz with Howard Kurtz, Priebus refused to go to bat for President Donald Trump following Rudy Giuliani‘s shocking admission that the Commander in Chief reimbursed his attorney, Michael Cohen, for the hush money payout to Stormy Daniels.
“I’m not sure what the truth is,” Priebus said. “Whether there was a payment made or not by the president. Obviously, I believe the mayor. I know that he wouldn’t go on TV and say anything that wasn’t true. But in today’s world, with so many different people saying different things, I don’t know if we actually know yet the truth of it. I myself didn’t know anything about it.”
The former Chief of Staff also weighed in on the various media reports surrounding his successor, John Kelly — most recently the story that he’s called the president an “idiot” on multiple occasions. Kurtz asked Priebus, having been in the same spot, to share his interpretation of sources anonymously “bad mouthing” Kelly.
“I don’t think quotes are made up. But I think there are nefarious people out there who make trouble,” Priebus said. He added, “Maybe people with agendas, and for whatever reason they’re not happy with the chief of staff. And maybe they weren’t happy with me when I was there. And I was going to be fired every three weeks.”
