Rep. Akin Slams Reince Priebus For Having ‘Personal Vendetta’ Against Him
Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus made it clear that Rep. Todd Akin would not get “a penny” even if he’s tied with Sen. Claire McCaskill in Missouri’s Senate race. Taking note of Priebus’ remark, Akin’s campaign released a statement blasting Priebus for his “personal vendetta.”
Priebus was asked, “If he stays in, is your position eventually going to change? Are you going to have to support him? ” He replied, “No, no. No. He could be tied. We’re not going to send him a penny.” The chairman’s been just as clear in his past statements, including calling on Akin to step aside as well as telling him not to come to the convention.
Perry Akin, the campaign’s manager, released the following statement in response:
“Reince Priebus’ comments are extremely dissappointing. He claims the mantle of freedom, liberty and the good of America, but this betrays his apparent personal vendetta against Todd Akin. He is putting party power and political games ahead of the good of the country.”
Personal vendetta or not, Priebus isn’t likely to budge.
