Rep. John Conyers Calls For ‘Thousands Of People’ Protest In Front Of White House
Michigan’s Rep. John Conyers (D) is loudly voicing his disappointment with the White House’s handling of the debt negotiations, and is calling on Americans to join him in making their dissatisfaction known.
At a press conference organized by members of the “House Out of Poverty Caucus,” Conyers encouraged those who agreed with him to march on Washington in protest of Barack Obama‘s additions to the debt ceiling deal and in order to “educate” the President:
I say that we’ve got to educate the American people at the same time we educate the President of the United States. Because the Republicans, Speaker Boehner or Majority Leader Cantor did not call for Social Security cuts in the budget deal. The President of the United States called for that. My response to him is to mass thousands of people in front of the White House to protest this.
An increasingly impassioned Conyers then asked “Will someone please tell me what date they have in mind to let America be America again?,” noting that what he wanted was full employment for Americans as a “matter of government policy.”
