Richard Spencer’s White Nationalist Non-Profit Loses Tax-Exempt Status: ‘I Don’t Understand This Stuff’

Richard Spencer‘s National Policy Institute (NPI), the white nationalist nonprofit that hosted a conference where members did a Nazi salute to honor Donald Trump last November, has lost its tax-exempt status.
The revocation happened after the NPI failed to file tax returns with the federal government, the Los Angeles Times reported. There are further questions about whether Spencer ever filed the necessary paperwork for the institute to raise funds in Virginia, where it primarily operates. Spencer told the Times he’d filed the appropriate paperwork, though a spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services said the NPI’s status was “under review.”
Further, given Spencer’s ardent support of Trump, there are questions about whether he violated federal rules regarding nonprofits supporting political candidates.
Spencer, who is outspoken in his belief of white superiority, said this:
I don’t know what to say. I don’t want to make a comment because I don’t understand this stuff. It’s a bit embarrassing, but it’s not good. We’ll figure it out.
