As reactions have trickled in from political observers following President Donald Trump‘s explosive Wednesday press conference at the White House, some portions of the Twitterverse are accusing CNN’s Jim Acosta of physically assaulting a woman at the event.
During the CNN reporter’s heated clash with the president, a White House aide tried to cut Acosta off and take away his microphone. As you can see in the video above, the woman grabs hold of Acosta’s mic, so he responded by using his free hand to push her arm away.
While the video doesn’t really suggest that Acosta used excessive force, many of his conservative critics are spreading it around — convinced that his actions constituted an act of physical violence. Here’s a sampling of the reactions:
Yeah, @Acosta is the "victim" in that scenario. ? https://t.co/LrFKOA4OCF

The only thing physical about this video is Jim Acosta slamming down the arm of a woman doing her job https://t.co/vSv91AK4ue

Jim Acosta refused to give up the mic, was incredibly rude to the President of the United States, and pushed a female White House aide, but sure @NBCNews go with that… https://t.co/heZDFiQ2uj

Somebody needs to tell @Acosta that no means no. This kind of behavior is unacceptable. https://t.co/0CZDXv5OH1

Pushing away a female staffer trying to do her job isn’t a good look, @Acosta. pic.twitter.com/jeULlOEXLG

Waiting on CNN's female anchors & correspondents to condemn Acosta for pushing & shoving a female White House aide just trying to do her job.
I slowed the video down.
Watch it.
Is treating a woman like this is acceptable, CNN? Does CNN condone this abuse?https://t.co/Tutexj8MW5 pic.twitter.com/ufC3csl95d— Benny (@bennyjohnson) November 7, 2018
More like… BREAKING Jim Acosta refuses to release microphone to female WH aide and appears to assault her. https://t.co/G5Yd17QyZa

No. That's not correct, @NBCNews, look at the video. @Acosta assaulted the woman whose job it is to pass the microphone. https://t.co/Ul48w0fDtx

It's her microphone and he's the one who shoves her https://t.co/uvrrlOI5ZM

More accurately, female White House staffer tries to do her job, @Acosta from @CNN physically prevented her from doing that job. If this were anyone from Fox the media would shit itself from crying "sexist!" https://t.co/5Fqnstzw0o
