‘Rock The Slut Vote’ Aims To Unite Women Against Republicans

Sluts are uniting against Republicans. Aiming to register women to vote (and vote against Republicans), women’s rights activists have created “Rock The Slut Vote” — drawing from Rush Limbaugh‘s controversial “slut” remark about Sandra Fluke.

“If the GOP thinks that throwing the word ‘slut’ at us at this point is going to silence women they have another thing coming,” said the website’s founder, Susan McMillan Emry. Their mission, according to their website (which is complete with a collage entitled “United Sluts of America” and a “You might be a slut if” checklist): “Our mission is to fight the GOP effort to bully, subjugate and silence women. We will wrest the power from the word slut and help women get informed, get involved, get registered and vote.”

While Limbaugh may have recently politicized the term, Emry said the site isn’t specifically about him. “It’s really about taking the power away from that word more than it is about Rush Limbaugh,” she said. “He gave the word the notoriety but we are trying to take it back.”

Emry’s site originally began as a platform for her to voice her frustrations, but has evolved into a voter registration initiative. Countering Republican “propaganda,” Emry hopes to educate voters about the “war on women” before they cast their ballots.
