Rose McGowan Reacts to Report Asia Argento Sexually Assaulted Underaged Actor: ‘My Heart is Broken’
Rose McGowan said she is heartbroken by a report that Asia Argento, the Italian actress and a fellow accuser of disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, faced her own allegation of sexual assault.
A bombshell story from the New York Times reported Argento paid former child actor Jimmy Bennett $380,000 after he claimed she assaulted him in a California hotel room when he was 17 and she was 37. The age of consent in California is 18.
“I got to know Asia Argento ten months ago,” McGowan wrote on Twitter. “Our commonality is the shared pain of being assaulted by Harvey Weinstein. My heart is broken. I will continue my work on behalf of victims everywhere.”

McGowan and Argento emerged as two of the most prominent faces of the Me Too movement after they accused Weinstein of assault. Those allegations were first revealed in Ronan Farrow‘s New Yorker report about the producer.
UPDATE: In a subsequent tweet, McGowan urged caution:
None of us know the truth of the situation and I’m sure more will be revealed. Be gentle.
