Rudy Giuliani Sets Parameters for Potential Mueller Interview: ‘2-3 Hours’ Maximum
Former New York City mayor-turned-Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani gave an interview on Wednesday where he explained how talks with Robert Mueller will go now that Ty Cobb is no longer a factor.
As Cobb takes his leave from the White House, Giuliani spoke to Washington Post‘s Robert Costa about where the White House’s strategy with the Russia special counsel goes from here. Cobb used to recommend that President Trump cooperate by giving Mueller an extensive interview, but Giuliani says that any interview that happens will be significantly restricted:
NEWS-Giuliani, mins after Cobb exit, goes on-rec w/ @WashingtonPost re: Mueller intvw. “Some people have talked about a possible 12-hour interview. If it happens, that’s not going to happen, I’ll tell you that. It’d be, max, two to three hours around a narrow set of questions."
— Robert Costa (@costareports) May 2, 2018
NEWS – Giuliani just now: "We’ve been talking about this. We are going to ask for a narrowing of the questions… we’d like to know more about what they have, if anything… They are going to need to narrow, to a great extent, the questions."

Giuliani re: Cobb: “[Legal team] had a long talk about it last week. The president let us know he had Emmet coming for an interview and we talked it through. Jay had the most to do with it. Jay felt he need someone that more aggressive."
— Robert Costa (@costareports) May 2, 2018
Shortly after the interview, Costa called into MSNBC and went into further detail on what parameters Giuliani is putting on any interviews, and the aggressive direction in which things are going.
“The legal team at this moment talking to Giuliani is trying to avoid the kind of fight that would go all the way to the Supreme Court. If it is going to be done voluntarily done, they want it to be done on their terms. The question is what those terms are going to be. What we’re really watching right now is how this is a sea change in the president’s legal team. You are moving from Ty Cobb ,who preached cooperation to the president and his fellow attorneys, we’re now moving to Giuliani and Emmet Flood, two battive personalities guiding the president.”
