Russian Official Doesn’t Want The Interview Shown: We Should ‘Display Tact’

Yes, The Interview is now available to watch in the United States, and don’t pretend like you didn’t watch it. Even people who weren’t expecting it to be good watched the Seth Rogen action comedy, because above all else the United States believes in freedom of speech and not caving to foreign threats.

Russia, on the other hand, isn’t quite on board with that sentiment. In fact, a former Russian cultural minister and current representative for international cultural cooperation opposes releasing the film there because of how sensitive the material is.

In comments reported by Russian news agency Interfax, Mikhail Shvydkoi said he opposes releasing The Interview in Russian theaters. “It should be taken into account,” he said, “that we have certain historical relations with this country. And, what counts most, we fortunately have no tradition of insulting a foreign president.”

He boasts that in Russia, they “display tact” towards foreign leaders and suggests that moviemakers should have a little more tact when tackling such subject matter.

Keep in mind here he’s referring to a film that starts out with a pretty long “Eminem is gay” joke.
