Thursday, the Joint Chiefs effectively refuted President Donald Trump‘s announcement of a transgender military ban via Twitter. In a statement directed to service members, Marine Gen. Joe Dunford of the Joint Chiefs said there “will be no modifications to the current policy until the President’s direction has been received by the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary has issued implementation guidance.”
During Thursday’s White House press breifing, Matthew Nussbaum of Politico wanted to find out if Trump knows he can’t… you know… govern by Tweet.
“Was the president aware that he can’t make policy changes via statements on Twitter?” Nussbaum asked Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
“I think he was making the announcement of the policy change,” Sanders replied.
Still, Sanders said that Trump is committed to seeing the ban through.
“They are gonna have to work out the details on how that all moves forward to lawfully implement that policy change from this point,” she said.
