Seinfeld Writer Behind Festivus Responds to Fox Outrage over Festivus Beer-Can Pole

Christmastime is a time of cheer, and in Florida they’re erecting a tower of beer. This really bothered Fox’s Gretchen Carlson, who positively flipped out over the pole being set up to honor Festivus, the made-up holiday from Seinfeld. And now the Seinfeld writer who brought Festivus to the world is speaking out.

The holiday’s true origins are found in the family of Dan O’Keefe, a writer for the iconic sitcom, and whose father had the idea for a holiday for the rest of us in the first place. In comments published by Mother Jones, O’Keefe couldn’t help but laugh at the big deal “hair-sprayed talking heads” on Fox are making about it.

“Am I to understand that some humanoid expressed outrage that the baby Jesus was behind a pole made of beer cans?…

I don’t think it has the Mordor-like, sinister political significance that’s being attributed to it by right-wing talking heads…It’s a manufactured news event. The intention of the newscast is to feed the false War on Christmas narrative that is everywhere.”

And re: that “false War on Christmas narrative,” here’s the original video of Carlson as a reminder, via Fox News:
