Sen. Boxer Announces Retirement in Hard-Hitting Rhyming Interview with Her Grandson

Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) announced Thursday morning she would not run for reelection in 2016, in a hard-hitting YouTube interview with her eldest grandson, Zach, who maybe should have put on pants for this.

“I am never going to retire,” Boxer told Zach. “The work is too important. But I will not be running for the Senate in 2016.”

“I will continue working on the issues that I love,” said Boxer, who is in her fourth Senate term and previously served in the House of Representatives. “But I want to come to the state that I love so much.” (She also obliquely referenced a certain possible 2016 candidate, saying she wanted to help the Democratic nominee “make history.” #Webb2016)

Boxer closed with a rhyme. “As long as there are issues and challenges and strife / I will never retire, because that’s the meaning of my life.”
