Sidney Harman, Former Owner Of Newsweek Has Passed Away
Sidney Harman, the former owner of Newsweek, died last night at the age of 92 from complications of acute myeloid leukemia. Harman served as the news weekly’s executive chairman, in addition to chairman of the Academy for Polymathic Study at the University of Southern California.
Harman formerly worked as an audio pioneer, responsible for the first high-fidelity stereo receiver. In 1953, he co-founded Harman/Kardon. He had also worked as a teacher, as president of Friends World College, and as President Jimmy Carter’s deputy secretary of commerce.
Harman leaves behind his wife, former representative Jane Harman.
Services for Harman are being planned both in California and in Washington, DC.
