Sinead O’Connor: Catholic Church Is Like ‘Having An Abusive Parent’

Sinead O’Connor, who was almost as famous in the early nineties for tearing up a picture of the Pope (John Paul II) on SNL as she was for her music (in fact, the move almost derailed ‘Sinbad’s career) has returned to weigh in on the enormous sex scandal that is rocking the Catholic Church. And who can blame her, really; after all the backlash she suffered after that SNL appearance, there must be some teeny measure of satisfaction that after all these years the Catholic Church is publicly proving to be…sickeningly bad, in a lot of ways.

Last week O’Connor penned an op-ed column for the Washington Post, and earlier today she called into David Shuster’s MSNBC show where she informed the host that she had no regrets about tearing up the Pope’s picuture, and that the church is treating its members like “half-wits” and being a Catholic these days is a bit like being “in an abusive relationship.” Video below, including the SNL spot.
