SNL’s Cecily Strong Speaks Out on Leaving the Weekend Update Desk

SNL cast member Cecily Strong took to Instagram last night to publicly comment on her departure from the Weekend Update desk. Strong is being replaced by Daily Show correspondent Michael Che.

In her Instagram post, Strong writes, “I don’t see this as me leaving update, just as me being on update in a looser, goofier way that is a lot more fun for me and in a way I think I’m better at. And now I get to do features with the very funny and wonderful Michael Che!”

She also tells her fans not to waste time feeling “angry or sad” for her when this is something she’s actually looking forward to. Deadline’s report on Che’s big move earlier this week noted that Strong welcomed the move so she could “focus on performing.”
