‘SOMEONE MISSED THE F**KIN POINT!’ Twitter Eviscerates All-Female Lord of the Flies Remake

On Wednesday, Deadline reported that an all-female remake of Lord of the Flies was in the works at Warner Bros.
The famous 1954 novel by William Golding is about a group of boys who get stranded on a deserted island but fail to govern themselves as savagery consumes them. But writer/directors Scott McGehee and David Siegel envisioned a different take, with girls being stranded instead of boys.
“We want to do a very faithful but contemporized adaptation of the book, but our idea was to do it with all girls rather than boys,” Siegel told Deadline. “It is a timeless story that is especially relevant today, with the interpersonal conflicts and bullying, and the idea of children forming a society and replicating the behavior they saw in grownups before they were marooned.”
Apparently, Twitter isn’t on the same page as many have overwhelmingly expressed their lack of excitement for the remake.
“all-female Lord of the Flies remake” SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE MISSED THE FUUUUUCKIN POINT OF LORD OF THE FLIES

We already have an all-female “Lord of the Flies.” It’s called “The View.” And it sucks.

Dudes writing a female version of LORD OF THE FLIES is like a gift to the problematic think piece gods…

An all women remake of Lord of the Flies makes no sense because… the plot of that book wouldn’t happen with all women.

[flies into frame on a broom]
the thing about lord of the flies is that it’s about systemic male violence + how it replicates

imagine having such little interest in seeking out original stories about girlhood by women that you remake LORD OF THE FLIES with girls

I’m all for “all female ____” movies but the whole point of Lord of The Flies was how easy it is for men (boy) to become violent savages.
— Stephen Ford (@StephenSeanFord) August 31, 2017
I mean, “Lord of the Flies” is about toxic masculinity. Hollywood should just have two women write a major film ABOUT TOXIC MASCULINITY.

The all-female Lord of the Flies will just be a group of young women apologizing to each other over and over till everyone is dead.

And the announcement of an all-female Lord of the Flies has already spawned ideas for other remakes.
inspired by the new Lord of The Flies, i’m going to write an all male version of ghostbusters

Great idea on the all-female Lord of the Flies. Maybe next we can get an all-male reboot of A League of Their Own.

An all female reboot of Lord of the Flies is just Heathers Goes Camping
