As part of his ongoing apology tour, Press Secretary Sean Spicer confirmed that he had a chat with Republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson about his Holocaust remarks during his Tuesday press briefing.

Politico’s Alex Isenstadt reported last night that he heard from Adelson spokesman Andy Aboud, who told him “Sean called shortly after and said he made a terrible mistake and apologized if he was offensive.” While Spicer declined to elaborate on the “private conversation,” he confirmed to CNN that a discussion did transpire with Adelson’s office.

Adelson, a billionaire casino mogul and GOP contributor, is known for his prominent pro-Israel donations and his seemingly close connection with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Adelson contributed millions of dollars to Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign, as well as his swearing-in ceremony.

The comments from Spicer have drawn outrage on multiple fronts, particularly among the Jewish community. The Anne Frank Center called Spicer’s comments an “evil” act of Holocaust denial, and Israeli Intelligence Minister Israel Katz demanded that the press secretary either apologize or resign.
