The State Department “email czar” in charge of overseeing the classification and release of Hillary Clinton’s private emails actually received many of those emails, included some that contained information later ruled classified.
Before she was appointed State Department Transparency Coordinator, Janice Jacobs was a career diplomat who served under Clinton as Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs. As a result, The Washington Examiner’s Sarah Westwood notes that Jacobs is actually included cc’ed in many of the private emails she is expected to impartially oversee.
Westwood reports that “Jacobs is copied on an email that discussed ‘diplomatic activity’ in North Korea. The email has since been classified.” Likewise, “Jacobs was included in another email discussion of North Korea that has been classified by the State Department — this one about ‘consular activity’ in the country in April 2009.”
Jacobs has already come under fire after it was revealed she donated the maximum amount allowed under law to the Clinton’s presidential campaign. When quizzed on the donation by the hosts of Fox & Friends, State Department spokesman John Kirby responded that it was “not relevant.”
