Stephen A Smith Asks: ‘What’s the Date of Cinco De Mayo?’
Who’s buried in Grant’s tomb?
What’s the color of Napolean’s white horse?
How long does it take to cook a three-minute egg?
During his radio show on Monday, First Take host Stephen A. Smith un-ironically asked his television colleague Max Kellerman a question roughly on par with those listed above.
“When is Cinco De Mayo?” Smith asked. “What’s the date of Cinco de Mayo next year? Can you tell me that?”
Ouch. Brutal.
Kellerman was flustered.
“Uh…It’s somewhere around May 5th,” Kellerman said.
“Wow,” Smith said — blissfully unaware, in the moment.
But all credit to Smith for owning his gaffe in the next segment.
“I asked Max Kellerman a very dumb, idiotic question,” Smith said. He added, “I know [Cinco De Mayo is] the fifth of May. That’s pretty dumb on my part. I didn’t mean that.”
