Strange Today Show Moment Leads to Crazy New Meme: #Rokering

Al Roker is a meme now, and there’s nothing you can do about it. That’s right, the Today Show weatherman was caught on-set staring menacingly behind a lamp, and after Carson Daly encouraged other people to replicate the strange moment, it just took off and is now its own meme that exists; a meme this naught more than just standing grim-faced behind a lamp.

Savannah Guthrie described it Friday as a “trend that is sweeping the nation,” and boy, if that’s the case, people must be awfully bored. Here’s a GIF of Roker photo-bombing Jeff Rossen on the air, just so get the idea of how exactly this started:

Daly picked up on this, and tweeted out a message for others (many of whom were other news reporters) to follow him in this bizarre trend.

And on top of all that, TODAY did a whole campaign on how #Rokering is sweeping the nation. You can watch Roker, Daly, Guthrie, et al. talking about it here:

This is what happens when the news learns what a “meme” is, people.
