Superdelegate Elizabeth Warren: ‘I Don’t Believe in Superdelegates’

elizabeth warrenSenator Elizabeth Warren is a Democratic superdelegate, but she wants to make it clear that she’s not happy about the system as is.

Warren spoke to reporters yesterday after the Massachusetts State Democratic Convention and said, “I’m a superdelegate, and I don’t believe in superdelegates.”

The superdelegate system has come under serious scrutiny in some wings of the Democratic party––mainly with Bernie Sanders supporters, though Sanders himself has been making the case that superdelegates should maybe switch over to him because he does better than Hillary Clinton than Donald Trump in general election polls.

Warren is one of the only remaining superdelegates who hasn’t backed a candidate yet, including DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, DNC vice chair Donna Brazile, former president Jimmy Carter, and Sanders’ fellow Vermont senator Patrick Leahy.

Warren did not comment on whether Sanders should get out of the race after the primaries this week are decided, simply saying, “Sanders has brought a lot of energy to this campaign, and that is a decision for Bernie Sanders to make.”

Whatever the case, it’s clear that Warren will be one of the Democrats’ strongest anti-Trump voices into the fall.
