Susan Collins: ‘I Don’t Understand the President’s Affection for Mr. Putin’

Republican Senator Susan Collins said today she doesn’t “understand the president’s affection for Mr. Putin.”

Yahoo News’ Katie Couric spoke with Collins today and brought up how Trump’s “refusal to ever say a bad word about Vladimir Putin” is baffling to many people. You may recall that when Bill O’Reilly brought up to Trump that Putin is a killer, Trump said, “There are a lot of killers. We’ve got a lot of killers. What, do you think our country’s so innocent?”

Collins talked about the importance of investigating Russian interference and said this in response to the president specifically:

“I don’t understand the President’s affection for Mr. Putin. I think President Putin is an authoritarian thug. I believe that he is pure KGB and I don’t understand his describing him in any admiring way, but I will say that we can’t jump to conclusions on this.”
