Swiss Miss No More: Michele Bachmann Withdraws Her Switzerland Citizenship

As our sister site The Jane Dough reported Wednesday, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann recently became an official citizen of Switzerland. It may have seemed like a bizarre move, but she was eligible for dual-citizenship since 1978 when she married husband Marcus, whose parents are Swiss.

After much heated controversy (not really — more like a few jokes here and there), Rep. Bachmann released a statement today officially renouncing her Swiss dual-citizenship:

Today I sent a letter to the Swiss Consulate requesting withdrawal of my dual Swiss citizenship. I took this action because I want to make it perfectly clear: I was born in America and I am a proud American citizen. I am, and always have been, 100 percent committed to our United States Constitution and the United States of America.

So…Bachmann has rejected her dual-citizenship in order to re-assure everyone that she loves America? Talk about a bizarre ending to a totally uncontroversial (but joke-worthy) story.
