Tapper: Trump Retweeting Fox News Story Based on Leaks ‘Could Feed Into Impression of Hypocrisy’

Earlier today, President Donald Trump retweeted a report from Fox News on North Korea that was based on anonymous sources. Of course, this opened up the president to accusations of hypocrisy considering all of the attention he’s given to stopping government leakers. It didn’t help Trump that US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley refused to comment on the story when on Fox News this morning, citing classified information.

During today’s broadcast of CNN’s The Lead, host Jake Tapper touched on the subject, noting that Haley lectured Fox News that the leak was “incredibly dangerous” and they were “playing with people’s lives.”

“Was the president’s retweet of what Ambassador Haley called classified information therefore dangerous?” Tapper asked. “Was it playing with people’s lives, as she said?”

The CNN anchor went on to note that Trump has railed against leaks, called on the Justice Department to root out leakers, yet is now sharing reports based on leaks from government sources.

“This could feed into an impression of hypocrisy that is eroding trust in this president,” Tapper said

Tapper’s comments came shortly after CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin tangled with political commentator Andre Bauer over Trump’s hypocrisy in tweeting out the report.
