The Academy on Booting Weinstein: Era of ‘Shameful Complicity in Sexually Predatory Behavior’ Is Over
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has expelled Harvey Weinstein. After the vote to kick him out, the Academy released a statement that appears to acknowledge past “complicity” of such behavior.
More and more actresses spoke out sharing their stories about behavior from Weinstein ranging from gross to sexual assault, and even Weinstein’s own brother has been publicly denouncing him.
In their statement today, the Academy says they want to send a message that “the era of willful ignorance and shameful complicity in sexually predatory behavior and workplace harassment in our industry is over”:
