The Pope Has Some Thoughts About Legalizing Marijuana

Were you curious to know what Pope Francis thinks about legalizing marijuana? You were? Well, today’s your lucky day!… unless you were hoping he’s for it, in which case I have some bad news for you. His Holiness not only thinks that drug addiction is a horrible evil, but legalizing marijuana doesn’t actually do what it’s meant to do.

The pope attended the International Drug Enforcement Conference in Rome and said that he’s not so sure about drug legalization. Francis called efforts to do so “not only highly questionable from a legislative standpoint, but they fail to produce the desired effects.”

He also condemned drug addiction an “evil” with which “there can be no yielding or compromise.” A recent poll of American Christians found that only 39 percent of Catholics would support marijuana legalization in the U.S.
