The Seven Best (Or, Somewhat Memorable) Moments Of The Jay Leno Show

After 95 episodes, the epic failure known as The Jay Leno Show airs its final episode tonight. Of course, Leno himself will be back after the Olympics, comfortably at 11:35pm all over again. Which was pretty much the problem to begin with - the 10pm offering started as a similar product to the Tonight Show, and only became more like the old format as time went on. But let's not let that stop us from taking a look back at some of the best, most memorable, moments of the past (almost) five months. After an exhaustive search, here are some choices. Let's get started! >>>NEXT PAGE: Kanye West cries. Long before Leno was like 'Yo Conan, I'm really happy for ya, imma let you finish, but I had one of the most mediocre Tonight Show's of all time!' there was Kanye and the event that started the meme. The day after Kanye West's embarrassing interruption during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the VMAs, the hip-hop stars apology tour began and pretty much ended as a guest on the first episode of The Jay Leno Show. Sort of a depressing start to the show, but certainly very memorable. >>>NEXT PAGE: Seinfeld and Oprah. Hey look, another moment from show #1! Jerry Seinfeld was a guest, in a tux, and all of a sudden Oprah Winfrey was involved too. This was a surprise, and therefore it made the list. The whole Oprah/Leno thing has really come full circle...and back again. >>>NEXT PAGE: Rush Limbaugh drives a car. Conservative radio legend Rush Limbaugh's much-hyped appearance during week two of the show amounted to a lot of political posturing by Rush during the interview segments. But the real chuckles came when Rush Limbaugh was "forced" to compete in Leno's "Green Car Challenge" and he hit Al Gore a couple times with his car. See, he doesn't like green cars or Al Gore. So laugh, people. >>>NEXT PAGE: Chelsea Handler is naked. Chelsea Handler appeared in Playboy. But according to her, she hadn't seen the cover yet. Well guess what - Leno got his hands on the cover, blew it up to an enormously large size and embarrassed Handler. Unless it was all an act. Who knows? Anyway, this was very memorable. Also, some misogynistic jokes between Leno and Handler, and a funny shot at David Letterman by Handler. >>>NEXT PAGE: Pee Wee Herman stops by. For those fans of Pee Wee Herman, Paul Reubens appeared in character and, amazingly, after all these years it was like no time at passed. Reubens made some Pee Wee Herman-like jokes that bordered on creepy and hilarious. Also abstinence rings. >>>NEXT PAGE: Miley Cyrus does something. Ok, we're running low on material. Miley Cyrus did the "10@10" segment, and she took a shot at Kanye West, couldn't really remember many of her dad's songs (but who can?) and generally came off fairly disinterested. Still, pretty unintentionally funny. >>>NEXT PAGE: Ah, screw it. Jimmy Kimmel wins. The real most memorable moment of The Jay Leno Show? When the host had the tables turned and Leno got absolutely roasted by Jimmy Kimmel. After 95 episodes, this will undoubtedly go down as the most memorable segment ever on the show, and that's saying something. It capped off a couple weeks of semi-memorable monologue jokes aimed at NBC and Letterman and awkwardly coy hints at the inner turmoil of NBC late night (one more video of how it all started to go downhill below). Whether you want to blame Leno or NBC for this 10pm failed experiment, the results show a Tonight Show-like program, maybe without the punch of Leno's Tonight Show, and some moments that will quickly be forgotten. Unlike Leno! When he returns March 1, expect huge ratings and probably an extensive, high-profile guest list. It will be like TJLS (that's the abbreviation they sometimes used) never really existed.
