This Exists: HaikuLeaks Sifts Through WikiLeaks To Find Haikus
Some hold WikiLeaks responsible for committing crimes, while the transparency-obsessed Julian Assange says his organization merely commits journalism. But one pioneering online soul thinks that WikiLeaks is producing something else entirely: poetry.
The site HaikuLeaks has so far pored over 1,830 leaked diplomatic cables and found 65 proper haikus nestled within. Using an internet doohickey named haikufinder, they’ve found some serious poetic diamonds in the WikiLeaked rough:
“People need to see
the results of decisions,”
the Sultan stated.
—OmanAs is typical,
the Pope stayed above the fray
and did not comment.
—ZimbabweThey do not know when
those attacks might occur or
what form they will take.
—AlgiersInstead, he gulped three
cans of Coca-Cola while
inhaling his food.
—KazakhstanWe have not noted
any tendency to shake,
blink or roll his eyes.
—Peru
Those are just five stand-out haikus, but there’s much more diplomatic poetry to be read, enjoyed, and shared over at Haikuleaks.
