This Week In Crazy Campaign Commercials: ‘Thugs And Criminals’ In Alabama

Buckle your seat belts, folks: if the recent slew of over-the-top campaign commercials is any indication, we are in for a long hot summer of campaign spots that may make you wonder whether The Onion has taken over the FCC.

The specter of the upcoming mid-terms have already brought us John McCain’s maverick ‘dang fence’ moment, as well as, Alabama gubernatorial candidate Tim James’ “We Speak English” ad, now comes Alabama Agricultural Commissioner candidate Dale Peterson-(R) who really knocks it out of the park.

According to Peterson, Alabama’s Agricultural Commissioner is one of the “most powerful” roles in the state “bet you didn’t know that, know why? Thugs and criminals.” Also, “illegals bust in by the thousands.” Fear not, Dale Peterson “will name names and take no prisoners.” He has a rifle and a horse. “We’re Republicans, we should be better than this.” All of which could be true — I don’t claim to be an expert in Alabama politics — however, rarely do you see a campaign platform articulated in such a (unintentional) caricatural fashion.

The video is below. Get ready for a summer of these…it’s only May, one can only imagine the lengths candidates will be going to by the middle of August. Courtesy of the Internet politics (and political campaign spots) are anything but local.
