Todd Akin: Claire McCaskill More ‘Ladylike’ In 2006
Republican Senate candidate in Missouri, Rep. Todd Akin, made unflattering headlines when he made controversial comments about “legitimate rape” and the female body’s ability to shut down unwanted pregnancies. On Thursday, Akin made controversy again when he described his female opponent, Democratic Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill, as being more “ladylike” when she was first elected to the Senate in 2006.

According to the Washington Post, Akin told reporter with the Kansas City Star newspaper that his opponent was more feminine and demure when she ran and won her first statewide Senate election in 2006:
“I think we have a very clear path to victory, and, apparently, Claire McCaskill thinks we do, too, because she was very aggressive at the debate, which was quite different than it was when she ran against Jim Talent,” Akin told reporters with the Kansas City Star on Thursday. “She had a confidence and was much more ladylike [in 2006], but in the debate on Friday she came out swinging, and I think that’s because she feels threatened.”
