Tony Hale Plays the Personal Aide to a Potential Veep on The Late Show

To mark the occasion of having Virginia’s Tim Kaine on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Thursday night, the show’s cold open featured a parody of sorts of the hit HBO series Veep.

The insanely funny political show chronicles the rise of a Vice President — Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) — whose personal aide have to continually whisper facts into her ear so she can remember who she’s speaking to. The role of the aide is played by the scene-stealing Tony Hale of Arrested Development fame, who was also a scheduled guest on Thursday’s Late Show, and who lent a hand to Kaine during a greenroom bit.

“I’m a big fan,” Kaine says to the host in the greenroom. “And I never miss an episode of…”

The Late Show,” whispers Hale à la his shy character Gary Walsh in Veep.

“…The Late Show,” confirms the Virginia senator who may be the next Vice President of the United States.
