Top Google Search in Syria Is Now ‘Immigration to Germany’
How desperate are Syrians to escape their war-torn nation? Desperate enough that the most popular Google search in Syria is for information on how to enter Germany.
According to a report from Al Jazeera, the top Google search in the country is now “immigration to Germany,” followed closely by “asylum in Germany.” The next highest search terms are “Greece map” and “sea separating Turkey and Greece,” with “maps of Europe in Arabic” and “map of Germany” not far behind.
Other highly searched for information includes the walking distance between Syrian cities and various cities in Europe and Turkey. In the midst of a crackdown on migrants in Hungary, some of the top Google News searches are “news of Hungary and “Hungary Syrian refugees.”
Just as depressing are highly-searched terms such as “Red Crescent Syria,” “the Red Cross Syria,” “treatment of burns,” and “mouth to mouth resuscitation.”
