The Virginia State Chairman for Donald Trump‘s campaign seems to have taken up his boss’ mantle today by saying that last night’s attack on law enforcement officials was Hillary Clinton‘s fault.
Five police officers were killed by a lone sniper as they were supervising a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas. While Trump responded to the attacks today with a measured statement calling for mourning and unity, Virginia campaign chairman Corey Stewart wrote on Facebook that the deaths had everything to do with Clinton and other liberal politicians:
While Stewart’s original post has since been deleted, a screenshot was picked up the Richmond Times-Dispatch. He is already using the attack to go on the political offensive in a manner similar to Texas lieutenant governor Dan Patrick and Rudy Giuliani.
“Corey does not speak for the campaign and this is not something we agree with,” said Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks in response. Her statement was matched by John Fredericks, the radio host and Virginia campaign vice president, who also said that Stewart’s statement doesn’t reflect the campaign at large.
