Trump Finds Low Road on Roy Moore Defeat: ‘I Was Right!’
President Donald Trump issued a tweet late Tuesday night in the immediate aftermath of Democrat Doug Jones’s stunning victory over Republican Roy Moore in Alabama’s Senate race — and it was surprisingly professional, congratulating Jones and commending the people of Alabama.
But, in a move that should take no one by surprise, Trump was back on Twitter early Wednesday morning, this time offering a pettier take on the election:
The reason I originally endorsed Luther Strange (and his numbers went up mightily), is that I said Roy Moore will not be able to win the General Election. I was right! Roy worked hard but the deck was stacked against him!

“The reason I originally endorsed Luther Strange (and his numbers went up mightily), is that I said Roy Moore will not be able to win the General Election,” Trump boasted. “I was right! Roy worked hard but the deck was stacked against him!”
Trump originally endorsed establishment pick Luther Strange in the election, who currently holds Jeff Sessions’ vacated Senate seat. When Strange was defeated by Moore, the president threw his support behind the controversial judge.
Of course, that was all before a dizzying series of allegations of sexual assault and harassment were leveled against Moore, by women who claimed he preyed on them when they were minors.
Unlike much of the Republican establishment, Trump stood by Moore, and worked to help undermine his accusers. That wasn’t enough for the typically arch-conservative voters of Alabama, however, who in a stunning rebuke of Moore elected a Democrat Tuesday night.
