Trump Foreign Policy Advisor: He’s Not Going to Get Rid of Iran Deal
In an interview with The Daily Caller Monday, a key foreign policy advisor to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump indicated that the candidate will not try to get rid of the Iran deal despite his fiery rhetoric on the issue.
“He’s not going to get rid of an agreement that has the institutional signature of the United States,” Walid Phares said. “He is a man of institutions.”
Instead, Phares explained, Trump would consult with his advisors and try to renegotiate a new deal with Iran. “So he is not going to implement it as is, he is going to revise it after negotiating one-on-one with Iran or with a series of allies.”
Phares also hinted that Trump could change his view on his proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the country. “Lately, he has been adapting his position,” he said. “The more he is informed of the subject, the more he is adapting. And he said, we are ready to discuss those issues which need to be discussed.”
Lastly, he cast doubt that Trump would allow South Korea and Japan to obtain nuclear weapons, saying “Mr. Trump is not committed to any particular action” (In fairness to Phares, Trump himself flip-flopped on the issue in June).
