According to ABC, the Department of Defense will be given six months to come with a plan on how to implement the ban — which goes into effect on March 23, 2018. ABC quoted an unnamed senior White House official as saying that Trump signed the memo because of “national security considerations.”
According to a report by CNN, the memo also forbids the Department of Defense from paying for gender reassignment surgery.
