Trump supporter Kayleigh McEnany said on CNN Tuesday afternoon that Trump’s exhortation that the “2nd Amendment people” push back against Hillary Clinton were a reference to the gun lobby — not an implicit incitement to violence.
“If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people––maybe there is, I dunno,” Trump said at a rally Tuesday. Trump also repeated the canard about Clinton wanting to abolish the 2nd Amendment. She does not and has never said that she does.
Trump’s comments were widely interpreted to be a call to gun owners and gun carriers to use violence against Clinton.
McEnany, a pro-Trump pundit, assured CNN viewers that her candidate was not literally encouraging gun-toting supporters to use their weapons against the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.
“I think he’s referring to the fact that the National Rifle Association is the most powerful lobby, hands-down, in the United States,” McEnany said. “So if anyone can stop a very anti-2nd Amendment agenda, it would be the NRA and the 2nd Amendment folks.”
