Trump Unveils New Plan if Healthcare Fails: Blame the Democrats

While President Donald Trump has publicly expressed optimism that the American Health Care Act will pass the House and Senate, he is already privately musing to those close to him that, should it fail, his plan is to allow Obamacare to collapse on its own and blame the Democrats for whatever comes next.

The comments were made during a recent meeting at the Oval Office with conservative groups, according to a report from CNN. Many of the groups are currently opposing the GOP Obamacare replacement in its current form.

According to the report, Trump upbraided members from organizations including FreedomWorks, Tea Party Patriots, Club for Growth, and the Heritage Foundation for implying the House plan was “Obamacare lite.”

In fact, such ‘let it die’ speculation is nothing new for Trump, who has mentioned the idea of allowing Obamacare to fail and blaming the Democrats in the past.

“Let it be a disaster, because we can blame that on the Dems,” Trump said last month to a meeting of the National Governors Association. “We can blame that on the Democrats and President Obama.” During the same conference, Trump also reminded attendees that ‘Nobody knew that health care could be so complicated’
