Trump White House Reportedly Considering Cindy McCain For State Department Role

The Trump administration is apparently about to offer Cindy McCain, the wife of Senator John McCain, a “prominent role in the…State Department,” according to a Thursday report from the Associated Press.
The wire service cited “two individuals familiar with the discussions” in their write-up. The same anonymous sources asserted that “one possibility under discussion is McCain serving as an ambassador-at-large in Washington, focusing on a specific issue such as human trafficking.”
The AP pointed out that Senator McCain is “one of President Donald Trump‘s fiercest and most respected Republican critics on foreign policy.” However, the Arizona Republican has “in recent weeks…softened his critique as Trump began adopting policies that hew closer to traditional GOP positions on Syria, Russia, Iran and geopolitical rivals,” according to the press agency.
Later in their article, the Associated Press noted that Mrs. McCain “has worked on human trafficking issues through her family’s McCain Institute.”
A Tuesday report from WLKY-TV, CBS’s affiliate in Louisville, Kentucky spotlighted Cindy McCain’s appearance at a fundraiser for the Kristy Love Foundation, an organization that “helps victims of prostitution and human trafficking. ”
“It’s a national and international epidemic and Kentucky is doing some remarkable work,” the potential State Department official stated at the event.
WLKY also mentioned that Mrs. McCain is “co-chair of the Arizona Governor’s Council on Human Trafficking. ”
